A therapeutic trauma intensive can offer you months of intervention in just a few days.
Blending models of Transforming Touch®, SE®, and EMDR with the Healing Our Core Issues framework, a trauma intensive attends to the mind-body connection, skill development, and integrative reprocessing acting as a catalyst in long-term therapeutic care. Designed for clients seeking immersive experiential therapeutic work that supports nervous system regulation.
All work is guided through a structured multi-phase method while individual intensives are further supported with trauma-informed somatic touch using the Transforming the Experience-Based Brain (TEB) model. The intention is to provide a reparative and comprehensive path toward recovery from the lasting impacts of developmental and relational trauma while enhancing embodiment of the Authentic Self.
What can an intensive help with?
Individual and group therapeutic trauma intensives have potential benefits including but not limited to:
Increased clarity and insight
Relief from trauma-related symptoms or emotional patterns
Learning new tools for self-compassion and relationships
Improved emotional regulation
A deeper sense of connection with yourself
Exposure to community
Enhanced therapeutic engagement
Is an intensive right for you?
If you’re finding yourself curious about a therapeutic trauma intensive, you might ask yourself…
Am I in a stable enough life situation for extended therapeutic work?
Can I feel into my body and identify my emotions?
Do I have a history of trauma that would benefit from deeper, structured processing?
Am I able to tolerate increased therapeutic intensity?
Am I engaged in my own personal individual therapeutic work?
If this is you, let’s talk!
A Structured Multi-Phase Approach
-
For those choosing an individual intensive, we will begin with a virtual or in-person 50-minute preparation session arranged through Simple Practice. We will explore your current resources and supports, your intention for the intensive process, and move through an overview of the experience together.
For those choosing a group intensive, we will begin with a 30-minute consultation call arranged through Simple Practice. We will also explore your current resources and supports, your intention for the intensive process, and move through an overview of the experience together.
We will confirm scheduling and review key dates. You will also be provided with the Developmental and Relational Trauma (DART) assessment, required reading, and prerequisites to ensure you are prepared for day one.
You must be involved in your own individual therapy to attend an intensive. A Release of Information for your current provider will also be requested at this time.
-
For those who choose the multi-day individual intensive experience, trauma-informed somatic touch will be offered to enhance nervous system regulation and the repair of somatic trust. You can learn more about Transforming Touch® and the Transforming the Experience-based Brain (TEB) model at the Austin Attachment and Counseling Center.
Transforming Touch® is not included in the multi-day group intensive.
No prior somatic therapy or Transforming Touch® experience is required.
-
Psychoeducation is a cornerstone to the intensive experience. This develops safety and containment in the therapeutic space and establishes informed choice as well as a shared language to support the depth of work that follows.
The required reading and prerequisite work are also part of the psychoeducational materials that facilitate engagement and connection upon entering the intensive.
-
You will be guided through a review of your DART assessment. We can call this Getting Your Story Straight as we identify family of origin patterns and early relational experiences that shape your present day functioning with attention given to core woundings, beliefs, emotion, and somatic responses.
It is required that you complete the DART Assessment to participate in the intensive experience. This assessment is to be completed and returned two weeks prior to your scheduled intensive.
-
With grounded presence and somatic support, you will be guided to reconnect with younger parts of self to offer the attunement, protection, and care that were needed but missing in childhood. The intention is to support corrective experiences along with integrative reprocessing for the reclamation of inherent worth and birthrights.
-
With guidance and therapeutic presence, you will be supported in releasing shame, anger, and burdens that do not belong to you. In doing so, you will be strengthening your personal agency, repairing boundary ruptures, and affirming authentic self-expression beyond survival adaptations.
-
For those choosing a 3-day individual trauma intensive, you will be offered targeted integrative reprocessing with the historical parts of self that you connect with in the reparenting phase. Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) is a highly researched evidence-based intervention for the treatment of PTSD and other trauma-related symptoms.
No prior EMDR experience is required.
-
For those choosing a multi-day individual trauma intensive, you will be provided a 50-minute in-person or virtual integration session within one month of your intensive. Our time will focus on your reflections, insights and noticings that you are experiencing, supportive resources, and sustaining your recovery efforts moving forward.
